IThe cooperation program Interreg VA Italy-Austria for the funding period 2014-2020 It was approved by thethe European Commission on 1 December 2015.

The program area includes areas in Italy NUTS3 Bolzano – Bozen, Belluno, Vicenza, Treviso, Pordenone, Udine, Gorizia, Trieste e in Austria Klagenfurt – Villaco, South Carinthia, Upper Carinthia, Lungau, Pinzgau - Pongau, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Tiroler Oberland, Lower Tyrol, Außerfern e Osttirol.
The goal of the program Interreg VA Italy - Austria is to strengthen cross-border cooperation in the border area, and help achieve the objectives of Europe 2020. The program is focused strategically on the three dimensions of the growth strategy Europe 2020.
• smart growth that is the development of an economy based on knowledge and innovation, thanks to more effective investments in education, in research, regional smart specialization strategies;
• Sustainable growth which it aims to promote a more efficient economy, in terms of resource use, greener and more competitive economy;
• Inclusive growth which focuses on the promotion of a high employment rate, on creating jobs and reducing poverty.
4 The priorities identified:
- Axis 1 – research and innovation: for capacity building for research and innovation for the development of common strengths: It is realized within the thematic 1 "Strengthening and improving capacity R&I cross " (investment priorities 1a and 1b).
- Axis 2 – Nature and Culture: for environmental protection and biodiversity, protection of cultural heritage in order to maintain and develop the natural habitats and cultural cross-border: It is realized within the thematic 6c "Store, protect, promoting and developing the natural and cultural heritage ".
- Axis 3 – Institutions: for the improvement of systems and administrative processes and harmonization of the regulatory framework at the organizational level, and institutional infrastructure to facilitate the integration of the population in the border area: It is realized within the thematic 11 CTE "Strengthening institutional capacity of public authorities and stakeholders and an efficient public administration by promoting legal and administrative cooperation and cooperation between citizens and institutions".
- Axis 4 – DLP- Regional development locally: for the creation and support of cross-border governance systems for the implementation of the program participatory and citizen: It is realized within the thematic 9d "Investment in the field of local development strategies of participatory".
